Featured today, Amanda Slim Rodriguez - we asked Amanda to share her VIP FA story with us along with her tips and secrets for a succesful career - this is her journey in the excellent world of aviation!

How did you first get into being a corporate flight attendant?

I was in Qatar Airways at that time and dreaming of switching to corporate! I got a job in SkyPrime and moved to KSA with a 2-1 months rotation, which wasn't bad to begin with.

What do you enjoy the most about being a VIP flight attendant? And what is the most difficult part for you?

I love working on a 1-1 rotation as it allowed me to spend a lot of time with my loved ones. Not having a schedule and being 24/7 on call can be difficult sometimes, but still worth it!

Have you ever worked as a freelance corporate flight attendant and if yes, was it easy for you to find work?

I have never worked as a freelance but I believe you can do anything if you really want to.

What are some in-flight catering challenges you have experienced? How did you overcome them?

Sometimes you can find things that are missing or unlike what I expected… at that time you have to be creative and manage the service with what you have!

Could you describe a highlighted/memorable flight?

I remember one of my first flights to USA. The PAX was so happy he tipped on both legs and we got to stay in New York for 4 days!

Could you name some of your career highlights?

I believe the best thing in my career was to become a Senior flight attendant with QR. It was a short but intense time of my life where I learnt a lot about leadership and responsibility.

What's your favourite destination and why?

I have always loved South Africa. Food is amazing and everyone wants to go when it is winter in Europe so I get to tan while everyone is freezing back home.

What do you feel are important skills for a successful CFA?

I believe the most important thing is a positive and kind attitude. Everything else comes with experience but, as in life itself, a positive attitude will take you anywhere you want to go.

Is there any advice you'd like to give anybody who wants to become a corporate flight attendant?

Be ready to work on holidays and weekends, but all your efforts and sacrifices will be rewarded with the experience everyone dreams about.

Describe this job in three words!

Exciting, challenging and rewarding.
